Because there are absolutely nothing worse a state could do than to translate its open-mindedness and sense of fairness into a law that goes further into ensuring equal rights for all. It's at times like these that you sorta want to turn to the religious right and remind them that they had best mind the pervs among their leaders who are molesting children than the consenting adults on the other side of the fence whose love hurts no one.
